Project Overview
The building forms part of the main Kirkwall campus and was designed to expand teaching and research capacity while creating a modern, accessible environment for students and staff. The two-storey facility is built into a sloping site and features both classroom and laboratory spaces, along with office accommodation and shared facilities.
Project Highlights:
- Two-storey steel frame and blockwork structure, finished with insulated cladding panels and standing seam roofing.
- Full DDA-compliant access, including external ramps and internal lift systems.
- Extensive landscaping and external works including road improvements, planting, and dedicated loading areas.
- Construction delivered with minimal disruption to ongoing college operations.
Outcome:
The completed extension significantly enhanced the college’s ability to support further and higher education in Orkney. The project demonstrates R Clouston Ltd’s ability to deliver high-quality, functional, and future-proof education facilities — on time and to budget.
