Ladysmith, Stenness – Private New Build

Located in the heart of Stenness, Orkney, Ladysmith is a striking example of contemporary rural architecture seamlessly integrated with traditional Orkney materials and forms.

Location: Stenness, Orkney

Project Overview

Delivered as a bespoke private home, the project demonstrates R Clouston Ltd’s commitment to craftsmanship, design-led building, and complex rural delivery.

This modern family dwelling comprises a combination of stonework from the original croft structure, paired with modern cladding and expansive glazing, delivering both character and performance. A zinc roof and vertical larch cladding complement the dark aluminium-framed windows, offering durability in Orkney’s challenging climate and contributing to the building’s bold architectural identity.

The property is arranged to maximise views across the landscape while maintaining privacy and shelter. Internally, the space is open, light-filled, and highly efficient – a true reflection of the high standards R Clouston Ltd brings to private residential builds.

This project illustrates our ability to deliver highly detailed homes that balance contemporary design with the heritage and materials of Orkney.
