Commercial

70% of our work comes from Commercial contracts from the public sector.  Securing large contracts enable R Clouston Ltd to continue to offer more Apprenticeships each year.  We use locally based sub-contractors to complete the projects. 

For the Local Authority – we are about to embark on new phase of social council housing in Kirkwall.  We have built a Community School in Burray and Community Halls in Harray, Deerness and Birsay.  We added extensions to Glaitness School, Stromness Academy and Orkney College.  We also built Healthy Living Centres on the Islands of Rousay and Stronsay.   

Our Orkney Housing Association Limited projects include the development at Sands Park in Deerness, The Fidges in Stenness. 

For Historic Environment Scotland we recently manufactured replacement stairs for Hackness Battery, a rare and well presented military remains site in South Walls. 

Our biggest construction project to date is the Orkney Research and Innovation Campus in Stromness.  The works will transform the former Primary school and the Old Academy into a state-of-the-art research and innovation campus. The proposed 3.75-acre campus will support the growth of existing research and innovation activity and the expansion of companies in Orkney’s world-leading marine renewables, energy and low-carbon sector.
